Police Investigation Shuts Down Northbound US-23

7/14/14 - Extreme back-ups are being reported on Northbound US-23 in the Green Oak Township area due to a police situation. Northbound US-23 is shut down at both Barker Road and 8 Mile Road, with traffic being diverted up Whitmore Lake Road. The closure is expected to be in place through at least the evening commute due to the ongoing police investigation. A suspect being sought for a stabbing in Ypsilanti apparently shot himself on the freeway after his vehicle was spotted by a police officer. In an unrelated incident, police are searching a wooded area near US-23 and I-96 following a smash and grab robbery at a jewelry store in downtown Brighton. One suspect has been apprehended but a K-9 unit has been brought in to try and locate the second. (JM)
