Possible Genoa Twp. Road Rage Shooting Leaves Man Dead

9/2/14 - A fatal shooting has taken place as part of a possible road rage incident in Genoa Township this afternoon. At about 3:35pm, emergency crews were called out to the intersection of Grand River and Chilson Road. Livingston County Undersheriff Mike Murphy says two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Grand River when one passed the other. Both came to a stop at the intersection, at which time the driver who was passed, identified as a 43-year-old Howell man, got out of his 2014 Ford Escape. He approached the window of the other driver, identified as a 69-year-old Howell man in a 2012 Dodge pickup, who shot the driver of the Escape, then pulled over and waited for police to arrive. The shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police took the alleged shooter into custody without incident. The victim’s wife was present during the incident, but was not harmed. Miranda Murray, who owns MJ's Hair Salon in the Whistle Stop Plaza, told WHMI that she heard the gunshot followed by the screams of a woman. When she went outside, she saw a man on the ground and a woman kneeling over him. She said a police officer later came into the salon to see if they had a surveillance camera, which they did not. An investigation into the incident is underway. The intersection of Grand River and Chilson as well as Grand River and Golf Club remained closed until just after 7pm as police conducted their investigation. Residents with any information are asked to contact police at (517) 546-2440. (JK/TD)
