(AP) - The Latest on flooding in southeastern Michigan after Lake Erie seawall collapse (all times local): 4:05 p.m. Inmates from a county jail and volunteers were filling sand bags along part of the Lake Erie shoreline in southeastern Michigan to help prevent neighborhood flooding from waves bursting through a damaged seawall. The Monroe News reports that some residents in Frenchtown Township's Grand Beach subdivision and Allen's Cove in Luna Pier also were evacuated Friday due to the rising water. The Monroe County Drain Commission placed storm pumps along the shoreline to help remove lake water from around homes. Drain Commissioner David Thompson says the lake level is high and if "dikes aren't at a sufficient height to keep the water out" the pumps can't handle the amount of water coming in. Frenchtown Township and Luna Pier are southwest of Detroit. The seawall was damaged during an April 15 storm. -- 2:25 p.m. Some southeastern Michigan residents are being evacuated as water from Lake Erie surges through gaps in a seawall, flooding yards and surrounding homes.
