DETROIT (AP) - A civil rights advocacy group has filed a religious discrimination complaint against a Detroit energy company on behalf of a former worker who's Muslim. The Detroit News reports that the Michigan chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations filed a grievance Wednesday against DTE Energy with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The complaint alleges that a DTE supervisor forbade Ibrahim Canales from attending Friday prayers last year. Canales also faced discipline for leaving despite having permission from other supervisors. The filing also alleges that Canales received biased evaluations that affected his pay and promotion opportunities. DTE officials say records indicate that Canales' religious accommodation requests were approved and implemented. The company says it's an equal opportunity employer that's committed to being inclusive. --- Information from: The Detroit News, http://detnews.com/
