YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Columbia University political science professor and author Keith Boykin is scheduled to deliver the keynote at Eastern Michigan University's 33rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. The free event will be held Jan. 21 at the school's Student Center Auditorium in Ypsilanti. The celebration runs from Jan. 17-22. Boykin also will speak briefly at Eastern Michigan's annual MLK President's Luncheon prior to giving the keynote address. The school says he then will meet with a small group of students. Boykin served as special assistant to the president and director of news analysis in President Bill Clinton's administration. President Ronald Reagan signed a bill in 1983 establishing the third Monday of every January as the federal holiday for King, a civil rights icon. Observances began in 1986.
