OXFORD, Mich. (AP) - An Oxford man who allegedly shook his six-week-old daughter hard enough to leave her in critical condition has been charged with first-degree child abuse. Christopher Williams remained in custody in the Oakland County Jail on Monday night after a judge gave him a $500,000 cash surety bond earlier in the day. The Detroit Free Press reports that the county's sheriff's office said deputies were called to Williams' home on Friday after receiving a call that the 25-year-old Williams had found his daughter unconscious. Williams told detectives his daughter had been sick for a few days and could not hold down fluids but the Free Press reports that he agedly admitted he had shaken his daughter and was arrested. On Monday, the child was listed in critical condition at Children's Hospital.
