Police Investigating Multiple Reports Of Strangers In Van Approaching Kids
August 28, 2017
Multiple reports of a van approaching children in an odd or threatening manner are currently under investigation in both Livingston and Washtenaw counties.
28-year-old Jade Fowler says she was outside her home at Cedar Lake Road and M-36 while her 4 and 7-year-old sons played in their yard around 7pm Saturday when a white cargo van pulled up. She then noticed a male occupant exiting the van and approaching her kids. She says she was in an area around a corner and not initially visible to the man, but that when he did notice her, he stopped and turned back toward the van, telling someone inside, that (quote) "there`s somebody out here with them," and that he then began to "argue and started cussing at the person who was still in the van." Fowler says the man then got back into the van and it drove off westbound on M-36. Fowler told deputies that the van was a full-size white cargo van with tinted windows and black wheels with chrome rims. The male suspect who got out was described as a white male in his mid-to-late 30`s, standing about 5`8" and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He was wearing a white bandanna on his head, a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
Meanwhile, Hamburg Township Police report a similar incident occurred earlier Saturday in the Hay Creek subdivision near M-36 & McGregor Road. At approximately 2pm, a 12-year old boy was approached by a vehicle he described as a “gray minivan.” The driver of the vehicle proceeded to call out to the boy asking him if he would like a ride home. That subject is described as a white male in his 20’s. Hamburg Township Police say they are working with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department to determine if the incident is related.
They are also in contact with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department about an incident Sunday night around 9pm in which a 9-year old boy stated that a “white work van” with no decals had approached him at McGregor Road and Portage Lake Avenue in Dexter Township and an occupant told him to get into the van. The white van was occupied by two white males. Anyone who may have information related to these incidents is asked to please contact the Hamburg Township Police Department at (810) 231-9391 or contact the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department at (517) 546-2440.
