A Walk Through History Planned In Conway Township
August 28, 2017
An upcoming event will take attendees on a walk through history while raising funds to restore damaged headstones in a local cemetery.
“A Walk Through History” at Benjamin Cemetery in Conway Township will take place on Saturday, September 9th from 3pm-5pm with walks starting every 20-30 min. Players from the Fowlerville Community Theater will portray residents of Conway Township from the Civil War Era during the donation charity event.
Funds raised will be used to restore damaged and unreadable stones in Conway Township’s five township-owned cemeteries. The Benjamin Cemetery was vandalized over the Memorial Day weekend in 2015. Eleven monuments and stones were damaged –including some large monuments that were toppled over. One from 1865 cracked when it landed and another headstone from 1865 was also smashed.
More information about the upcoming walk is available on the Conway Township website. A link is provided. (JM)
