A multi-vehicle crash on US-23 near Fenton Friday morning left one person dead.

The crash occurred just before noon on northbound US-23 near the Torrey Road exit when a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze was rear-ended by a semi-truck as it slowed for traffic. The truck, which was driven by a 54-year-old Flat Rock man, ended up on top of the Cruze, which was pushed into a cargo van in front of it. The driver of the Cruze, identified only as a 33-year-old Clio woman, died from her injuries.

The 44-year-old North Branch man driving the cargo van was transported to Hurley Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was not injured. Police closed the highway near the site of the crash for several hours and diverted traffic onto Silver Lake Road. The Fenton fire and police departments and Genesee County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene. (JK)
