Local middle school band students that comprise a county honor band will come together tonight for their first-ever performance.

The Livingston County Middle School Honor Band is a new program created by middle school band directors from around the county. Students will spend the day working in sectionals, and as a full band, preparing for tonight’s inaugural Livingston County Middle School Honor Band Concert. Seventh and eighth-grade students from Howell Public Schools, Brighton Area Schools, Fowlerville Community Schools and Hartland Consolidated Schools were all nominated to participate in the band by their band directors.

Howell’s Parker Middle School band director Jeff Stimson says over the summer, several of the middle school band directors from local school districts got together to begin planning the honor band. Collectively, the band directors felt that an honor band would be a wonderful way to honor, reward and recognize students that go above and beyond the normal call of duty for band class. Stimson says they’re very excited about the inaugural performance and look forward to growing the idea and experience.

The Livingston County Middle School Honor Band Concert is free and open to the public. The show starts at 7:30pm and will be held in the Fowlerville Alverson Center for Performing Arts located at 700 North Grand Avenue. Facebook photo. (JM)
