Candidates are being sought to apply for a vacant seat on the Pinckney Village Council sooner than later.

Council met recently to accept the resignation of Trustee Ted Kinczkowski, who moved out of state to pursue a job opportunity.

President Linda Lavey tells WHMI that they’re looking to appoint someone as soon as possible, as the term only goes until the November election. That means whoever is appointed will also have to run in the election in November to keep the seat.

Lavey noted that the empty seat had two years left, so if a person is running for the seat, it is only for two years instead of the usual four. She said that could be good for someone who thinks they may like to serve on Council, but aren’t sure they can commit to four years.

As for qualifications, Lavey said applicants must live in the Village and “give a damn” or "just care about the Village”.

Meetings are every second and fourth Monday at 7:00 pm and last anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. Webinars and classes are available for those wishing to learn more about the responsibilities of elected officials.

Nominating petitions, with six signatures from other Village electors are needed, and are due in about three weeks.

An application can be accessed in the provided link.

Applications can be mailed, hand-delivered, or emailed to the clerk at clerk@villageofpinckney.org.
