2nd Annual Gala To Raise Funds For Local Recovery Housing
February 11, 2019
An upcoming event will benefit a non-profit in its venture to support individuals seeking long term treatment for addiction.
The Amber Reineck House in Livingston County will host their 2nd annual fundraising gala event this Saturday, February 16th, at Crystal Gardens Banquet Center in Genoa Township. Event organizer Courtney Atsalakis says proceeds from the gala will help support opening a recovery home as there currently is not one for women in Livingston County. Atsalakis began her mission after losing her 33-year-old sister Amber Reineck, who died of a heroin overdose in 2015.
Atsalakis says many acknowledge addiction is a prevalent problem and there is a need for sober-living resources locally. Yet she’s found community members don’t always want a recovery home in their neighborhood. She tells WHMI while the financial aspect of supporting a recovery home is important, a successful venture is one that also includes the community’s support.
This year’s gala will feature speakers that will discuss addiction, recovery and the impact each have on the community. However Atsalakis notes that in addition to bringing awareness to those heavy topics, the evening will also focus on the positive aspects by celebrating recovery and the progress that has been made toward fighting the addiction crisis. Livingston County’s Big Red Barrel will help highlight that progress, returning to the event after 26 pounds of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications were collected at last year’s gala.
Atsalakis says the event could be a nice night out for Valentine’s Day weekend as it includes dinner, live entertainment and raffles. The gala takes place from 6 to 11pm, with doors opening at 5:30pm. Tickets are still available, as well as sponsorship opportunities. More information is available at the link below. (DK)
