The search for a new Howell City manager is getting going.

Council earlier approved hiring the Michigan Municipal League to conduct the search for a standard package cost of $17,000, although that could be modified at a later date. City Manager Shea Charles resigned and his last day was June 14th. Members have been quiet about specifics but Charles later commented that was really just a case of it being a good time for transition for both parties. MML Consultant Kathie Grinzinger will be leading the effort for a new manager and a work session is planned on Monday from 4 to 6:30pm to begin the profile phase of the executive search process, prior to the regularly scheduled Council meeting. Howell Mayor Nick Proctor told WHMI Council will come together before the meeting to discuss a profile of what they’re looking for in their next city manager. He says they’ll discuss that with the MML, which will also be meeting with city staff for the same purpose.

It was earlier noted that city manager searches are usually a 120-day process but can sometimes take longer based on contract negotiations. Council previously appointed DPS Director Erv Suida to serve as interim city manager, through December 31st or until a new manager is hired. (JM)
