The cities of of Brighton, Howell and South Lyon, along with the villages of Pinckney and Fowlerville have all declared a snow emergency in advance of what’s expected to be a significant winter weather event.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of Southeast Michigan lasting through noon on Saturday. Snow is expected to be heavy at times with anticipated accumulation of 5 to 8 inches.
In the City of Brighton, the snow emergency is in effect from 10pm Friday until noon Sunday. No on-street parking is permitted during those hours on all streets in the city. Any vehicles parked along the designated snow emergency route will be towed, after reasonable attempts are made to inform the vehicle owner.
The City of Howell’s snow emergency is in effect from 7pm Friday through 4pm Sunday. The City says the advance notice allows residents time to prepare and make alternate arrangements for parking and allows the Police Department adequate time to notify residents at a more reasonable time of the day. During the emergency, all vehicles must be removed from the street to allow public works personnel to perform winter maintenance in a safe and efficient manner. Vehicles that are not removed will be towed at the owner’s expense. On street parking in the Central Business District
will be permitted during normal permitted parking hours. Residents and visitors should monitor the City website, access channel and local media for updates as weather conditions may change and require further modifications to this emergency.
The City of South Lyon has issued a snow emergency from midnight Friday through noon Sunday. Residents are asked to remove all vehicles from City Streets during that time frame to allow snow removal crews the ability to clear the roads and residential neighborhoods as quickly as possible.
In Fowlerville, Chief John Tyler says the emergency is in effect from 10pm Friday until Noon on Sunday. The snow emergency requires that all vehicles be removed from the roadway so that snow removal crews can safely clear the roads of snow and ice.
Pinckney Police Chief Jeff Newton says the snow emergency is being declared per Village ordinance and the order will be in effect there from 12am Saturday to 12am Monday. Pinckney Village Ordinance requires that all sidewalks be cleared of all ice and snow within 24-hours within the Central Business District and 48-hours within all residential neighborhoods, once the snowfall has stopped. In Fowlerville, all vehicles on residential streets are to be removed or they will be towed, at owner's expense. Vehicles are to remain off the streets for the entirety of the Snow Emergency and on-street parking is prohibited. (JM/JK)
