The statewide tornado drill is running this Wednesday at 1pm, but with a twist in Livingston County.

Due to the current covid-19 event, Livingston County officials have decided on participating with a silent drill. Emergency Manager Therese Cremonte said they feel at this time that setting off sirens and a citizen’s alert phone call may be too much for some people, and is best saved for an actual emergency. Cremonte says that with many families shut-in together, this a great time to go over emergency preparedness. Families should talk about their sheltering plans and practice it, multiple times, if possible, while they are all home. Cremonte said families may want to make this a fun or adventurous thing and put together a plan, getting input from the kids, and answering any questions they may have.

A phone or calendar reminder is a great way for a family to reserve this time on Wednesday, or another time that works for them, for this important planning. With the spring storm season upon us, Cremonte says the county will still be performing their seasonal monthly testing on the first Saturday of the month through October, with the first occurring on April 4th.
