Detours and delays can be expected with a construction project that starts up next week in the City of Howell.

A new water main and leads will be installed along East Grand River from Barnard Street to Lucy Road.

It’s part of the City’s ongoing water system improvements.

The new mains will be installed using horizontal directional drilling to minimize disruption, which means they won’t have to dig everything up.

While local traffic will be maintained during construction, temporary lane closures and detours will occur – which officials caution will likely cause delays.

The City says mail service and trash collection will not be interrupted.

The project should be done by fall.
