Gas prices are up again in the WHMI listening area and across the state.

AAA Michigan reports gas prices are up 5 cents from a week ago. Drivers are now paying an average of $3.62 per gallon for regular unleaded. That price is 31 cents more than this time last month and 9 cents more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $54 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of about $4 from 2023's highest price last August.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand dipped slightly. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks increased. The Auto Club says lower demand would typically contribute to pushing pump prices lower or slowing increases, but rising oil prices have kept them elevated instead.

AAA Michigan Spokeswoman Adrienne Woodland said despite the slight decrease in demand, Michigan gas prices are up compared to last week. She added that pump prices will likely face upward pressure if gasoline stocks continue to decrease alongside rising oil prices.
