The 64th Annual Howell Melon Festival returns to Downtown Howell this weekend.

The event is put on by the Howell Area Parks and Recreation Authority and draws thousands downtown every year.

The Howell Melon Festival turns 64 this year, but 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the Howell Melon - “the delicious local treat that started it all”.

The fun kicks off today with the grand opening of this year's festival tent. Visitors can enjoy live music, food and beverages from the Festival Tent, and a night of trivia.

On Friday, the Howell Melon Run returns to downtown Howell alongside melon ice cream, food trucks, and beer and wine at the Festival Tent.

On Saturday and Sunday, the festival kicks into full gear with the return of the vendor show, Fast Action RC racing, concerts on Saturday, and more.

Howell Mayor Bob Ellis told WHMI everyone is very excited. He noted that as they always do, Grand River will be closed during the festival - with detours in effect utilizing Clinton and Sibley Streets. Ellis said he hopes everybody comes out and has fun as there is a fantastic program planned and the weather looks favorable.
