Yesterday marked a record-breaking Matching Money Monday for the Livingston County United Way.

The goal was to raise $300,000 in matching funds and the United Way says family foundations, local business partners, and area residents responded overwhelmingly – raising over $435,000.

Executive Director Patricia Sliter said the community supported this year’s Matching Money Monday in unprecedented ways and people are “truly helping to change the lives of area residents”.

All proceeds stay local and are invested into basic need programs that will help families and individuals with food, shelter, utilities, and more in the upcoming year.

The funds raised will be part of the Community Investments process that takes place in mid-April, where community leaders come together to determine the best use of the donated dollars. They will review funding applications, financial reports, and return-on-investment stats from area agencies that apply for program funds.

Meanwhile, anyone still interested in making a year-end donation can contact the United Way office or visit their website at www.lcunitedway.org.
