The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office has identified the St. Clair Shores man who drowned on Aug. 24th in Genoa Township’s Lake Chemung.
Sheriff’s officials say Michael Vincent Charrette, 68, was in a boat with family members and decided to go swimming. He entered the water on the East side of the lake near Hughes Road and Grand River and was reported missing at 5:30 p.m.
Since the water was very murky, sonar and drones were used in the search. Lake Chemung is a 1.6-mile long, 313-acre all-sports lake with a maximum depth of 70 feet.
The body was recovered in 33 feet of water at around 9:30 p.m. by the Livingston County Dive Team. Charrette was not wearing a life jacket. Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to have been factors in his death.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Brighton Area Fire Department, Disaster Area Response Team, Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, Hamburg Township police and fire departments, Howell Area Fire Department, Livingston County EMS, Oakland County Sheriff’sFuneral Office and Southeast Michigan Dive Group.
Funeral arrangements for Charrette were handled by the Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Homes of St. Clair Shores.
