While the Memorial Day holiday weekend is now in the rearview mirror, a seatbelt enforcement campaign is not.

The “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement campaign is continuing this week through Sunday – marking a reminder to area motorists to buckle up and stay safe.

Michigan State Police and various law enforcement agencies will be conducting stepped up patrols and high-visibility enforcement to collectively help address “disturbing crash numbers”.

In Michigan, 244 occupants killed in traffic crashes during 2022 were not wearing a seat belt.

From 2020 to 2023, the seat belt usage rate in Michigan fell from 94.4% to 92.4%.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that buckling up in the front seat can reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash by 45%.
