Power outages remain following strong storms that moved through Southeast Michigan Wednesday evening.
There were initially around 42,000 outages reported in DTE Energy’s service territory. The outage map showed 34,831 had power interrupted as of late afternoon.
The bulk of the remaining outages are in Oakland County at 23,585 - with others scattered throughout Washtenaw, Wayne, and Macomb Counties.
DTE Energy said it knows how challenging it is to be without power, particularly in the heat. It said their Storm Response Teams are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore service to customers — and they’re bringing in crews from Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana to help speed restoration.
DTE estimates that 75% of customers will be restored by the end of the day.
The majority of Consumers Energy customers had power restored as of the afternoon.
Both utilities remind people to be safe and remain at least 25 feet away from any downed power lines or anything in contact with them and assume any downed line is live and dangerous.
