Donations are being collected as part of an annual campaign that provides essential school supplies to Livingston County students whose families are facing financial challenges.

The Livingston Educational Service Agency is hosting its 23rd Annual Backpacks for Kids/Connect for Kids event on Thursday, August 8th. Organizers say it’s a heartfelt initiative and thanks to the incredible generosity of the community members, the event continues to thrive.

The community is encouraged to help support local children and students by donating backpacks and school supplies. Donations for the 2024 Livingston ESA “Backpacks for Kids” project are welcomed until August 1st. They can be dropped off at Livingston ESA’s Education Center, 1425 West Grand River Avenue, Howell, between 8am and 4pm, Monday through Thursday.

On Friday, August 2nd from 10am to 2pm, a Livingston ESA Bus will be stationed at the Howell Walmart. Organizers encourage families shopping for school supplies to consider picking up an extra set of pencils, a pack of paper, or a backpack to contribute to the Annual Stuff the Bus Campaign.

Last year, over 1,500 backpacks filled with school essentials were distributed to students from Preschool through 12th Grade. This year, the goal remains to provide the same – to support 1,500 students across Livingston County. Organizers stressed that “It’s through the kindness of residents, churches, and local businesses like yours that we can make this event a true success”.

The Backpacks for Kids distribution event will again be a drive-thru experience on August 8th across all five school districts. Further details on distribution will be released as the date approaches.
