The Brighton Board of Education, meeting Monday night in regular session, unanimously approved the Schools of Choice program for the 2025-26 school year.
In the coming school year the Brighton Area Schools will be allowing unlimited Schools of Choice for junior kindergarten, kindergarten, grades 5 to 12 and the Bridge Alternative High School. Brighton will also be offering a limited Schools of Choice program for elementary grades 1-4.
Schools of Choice is a mechanism by which students may choose a school outside their home district but within the boundaries of their intermediate school district. For school districts, the advantage of participating in the Schools of Choice program is that it enables the recipient district to capture the state aid for that student, which this year amounts to $9,608 per student.
