MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — A central Michigan police officer broke the windshield of a burning car and pulled a woman to safety through the flames, a dramatic rescue that was recorded on his body camera.

Video released by Mount Pleasant police showed the officer smashing the windshield with a heavy tool as fire engulfed the overturned vehicle Sunday night.

A leg suddenly appeared through the windshield, and the officer pulled the 22-year-old Detroit-area woman fully out of the car. Their names were not released.

“Who else is in there?” the officer asked.

“I don't know,” the woman replied.

“You don't know who's in the car?” the officer said.

There was no one else in the vehicle. The video has been shared hundreds of times on social media.

"So thankful for our emergency responders! Great job getting her out!" Rachael Thayer said on Facebook.
