ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - A former Michigan special education teacher's assistant has been sentenced to a year of probation after being convicted of assault and battery in connection with alleged student abuse. The Ann Arbor News reports Tiffany Massey learned her punishment Thursday in an Ann Arbor courtroom. A jury last month found her guilty of one misdemeanor count and not guilty on a charge of fourth-degree child abuse, also a misdemeanor. Massey declined to address the court before being sentenced. The charge stemmed from 2016, when prosecutors alleged a teacher Lisa Mannor struck a student in the head and Massey kicked a student in the same classroom at Burns Park Elementary. Mannor taught students with autism. They both resigned last year from their jobs with Ann Arbor Public Schools. Mannor is awaiting trial. --- Information from: The Ann Arbor News, http://www.mlive.com/ann-arbor
