WESTLAND, Mich. (AP) - A Detroit man has been charged in the hit-and-run death of an off-duty Wayne County sheriff's sergeant who was struck and dragged while jogging. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says 47-year-old Desmond Robinson was charged Saturday with reckless driving causing death, failure to stop at an injury accident scene and tampering with evidence. A not guilty plea was entered on Robinson's behalf during his arraignment hearing. Authorities say 55-year-old Lee Smith was jogging Tuesday in the Detroit suburb of Westland when Robinson's SUV struck him, dragging Smith for 50 to 60 yards. Robinson allegedly sped away from the scene. Smith, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had worked in road patrol. Worthy called Smith "a dedicated, passionate, and skilled member of law enforcement who was going to retire soon."
