ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - More than $7 million has been awarded to 26 community-based projects dealing with root causes of health inequities for Washtenaw County residents. Michigan Medicine's Department of Community Health Services says the projects target health equity and issues that include education, poverty, housing and transportation. Funding includes $750,000 for a program that improves access to mental health and substance use services for sexual and gender minority adolescents and emerging adults, more than $694,000 for a supportive housing initiative, about $594,000 for a mentorship program, and $286,000 for mental health services addressing mental health, suicide, grief and substance abuse among at-risk adolescents and young adults. Other organizations receiving awards include the United Way, Washtenaw Area Council for Children, and the Women's Center of Southeastern Michigan.
