ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The city of Ann Arbor, Michigan, is taking a closer look at an ordinance that bans unauthorized displays of its seal and flag after getting a complaint from the American Civil Liberties Union. The Ann Arbor News reports City Council approved the ordinance in July, imposing up to $10,000 in fines for violations, but the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan argued in a recent letter that it infringes on free speech rights under the First Amendment. Mayor Christopher Taylor says officials want to "make sure that we've got it right." The ordinance prohibits anyone from displaying the city seal or flag "on any written or printed materials that are not official city publications," unless they have the mayor's permission. The display must promote "the interests of the city." --- Information from: The Ann Arbor News, http://www.mlive.com/ann-arbor
