YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Eastern Michigan University has raised more than $875,000 from 852 donors through its #GIVINGTRUEDAY campaign. The funds were brought in Tuesday through a combination of grassroots fundraising, collaboration with the campus community and major gifts. The Ypsilanti school says it will support a variety of student-based programs and services along with academic programs. Eastern Michigan had set a goal of $500,000 on Tuesday. Nearly $469,000 was raised in 2017. The campaign is part of a global philanthropy day known as Giving Tuesday. It is intended as a way to give back following the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It started in 2012 and last year raised more than $300 million for charities around the world in a single day.
