Tom Tolen
I got into radio after one year of college as an overnight DJ at a Top-40 station in Terre Haute, IN, and after that worked at stations in Whitehall-Montague, MI and Muskegon.
I then got a job at an AM station in Rogers City, where I did DJ, news and play-by-play sports. Next, I was named news director at WHSB in Alpena.
I then became news director at WCCW in Traverse City and later became news director at KOOL-107 FM and WTKA-AM in Ann Arbor. After five years there I worked as a reporter for the Ann Arbor News and then the Livingston Community News.
At the same time, I was working as a part-time DJ and doing weekend news at WHMI, where I have remained ever since.
I am married, have three wonderful, grown children and four equally wonderful grandchildren — two of whom are teachers.
