Earlier this week I went into the video archives to review the up and under post move of former Boston Celtic power forward Kevin McHale and the step back jumper of Jack Sikma.
I immediately thought of Pinckney post player Audrey Wardlow, a sophomore who plays like a senior, but is still learning the game. Wardlow would be unstoppable if she added these two moves to her game. As it is she is quite a load for Pirate opponents. She averages 18.3 points per game.
Wardlow blitzed White Lake last week with 17 points, eight rebounds and five steals during a 42-37 Pirates win. Coach Tom Reason is building a program with young pups. Last year Pinckney didn’t get its third win until February. The Pirates (4-6) have already reached that goal and the win over White Lake (5-3) was pretty significant.
“This team is capable of competing very well with everyone we play,” Wardlow said. “If we have (good defense) I think we can keep up with anybody.”
This young group is not always as consistent as it needs to be. After the White Lake win it ran into a buzz saw name Chelsea (9-1) during a 68-18 loss. Chelsea has not lost a game in the state of Michigan and has routinely steam rolled opponents.
The Pinckney girls get a while to think about this loss because its next game isn’t until Jan. 20 during a home game against Adrian (1-7).
The Pirates are hoping to get their Tik Tok juices flowing again, a production the girls put together after every victory. She wasn’t exactly Taylor Swift but Wardlow grabbed a basketball shoe, used it as a microphone, and thrilled her fans in a melody of songs and crazy dances.
Wardlow wasn’t always the confident player fans get to see every game. When she was brought up to varsity as a freshman, teammates routinely fed the ball to her in the post. They saw a polished player who was taught by mom Julie Wardlow in local gyms and the driveway.
Thanks to mom teammates felt comfortable feeding the freshman the pill on the block.
“I thought this was crazy,” she said. “I am not ready for this. But my coach and my teammates gave me the confidence to do the job. They helped me with my post moves, and I think I’ve got it down."
HOWELL ROLE PLAYERS HITS BIG SHOTS TO STUN BRIGHTON

## The Brighton boys are not only the team to beat in football, but the Bulldogs are also the hunted in basketball.
At one point Brighton led Howell 16-4 in its KLAA game. So, who was the hero that brought Howell back for an impressive 55-52 overtime win? It was none other than John Klask who came into the game averaging 4.6 points a game. He had 14 points against Brighton and hit a three-point shot with four seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. He also scored the only basket in overtime, another three-point bucket.
