Dexter is powerhouse capable of winning seasons each calendar year. Chelsea is more dangerous. This is a team capable of winning a state title every few years.
They are not the best of friends although you can find a lot of folks from Chelsea strolling the quant streets of downtown Dexter and the folks from Dexter love going to cultural events in Chelsea.
This is one of the best rivalries in the WHMI-FM coverage area because of the strength of both teams. They both advanced to the second round of the MHSAA state playoffs, although they won’t be playing each other.
Chelsea (9-1) plays host to Haslett (7-3) Friday night in a Division 4 regional semifinal while Dexter (7-3) travels to Gibraltar Carlson in a D-2 battle.
Too bad they are not in the same division because it’s always a special event when Dexter and Chelsea battle one another. You can call it the Battle of Dexter-Chelsea Road, the rural street that separates the two rivals.
