Inside force can get Hartland girls basketball into the KLAA race
January 17, 2024
Go big or go home.
That seems to be the motto this season for Hartland’s girl’s basketball.
When 6-foot-0 senior center Aubree Meyer is filling up the stat sheet the Eagles are hard to beat. When she struggles so does Hartland.
Meyer has become the inside go to person because of the absence of 6-3 center Sarah Rekowski, who will play for Western Michigan next season.
The Eagles (7-2) are enjoying a wonderful start to the season by pounding the rock inside to Meyer. That hasn’t been the case lately which is a major reason Hartland has dropped two of its last three games heading into Friday’s home game against Novi (4-7).
Hartland (2-2 in the KLAA West Division) is one game behind first place Howell (4-1) in the loss column – a team it beat earlier in the season. The Eagles need to get Meyer going again in order to pass several teams to the top.
Meyer boosted her scoring average from 4.1 points to 14.5 points a game because new coach Mike McKay emphasizes inside play hoping to wear teams down. Meyer is also more patient when she gets the ball. She showed potential as a junior but rushed things a bit probably because she didn’t know how many times she’d get the ball.
The Hartland—Novi game is the WHMI 93.5 FM game of the week with tip off around 7 p.m.
