This is a match made in heaven.
There is just no way the bonding of Chelsea High School football and Hall of Fame coach Noel Dean who won three state titles at Lowell won't end in glory. On the flip if you throw out a 2023 5-5 clunker Chelsea is 96-16 since 2015.
Chelsea (1-1) is coming off a 48-6 victory over Detroit East English. Next up is a home clash with Pinckney (0-2), a team that is playing tougher than in years past but has yet to find a way to win.
Dean not only brings a winning pedigree, but he enjoys building character in his players. Character building became his calling at Tift County High School in Tifton, Ga. He retired as a coach and teacher at Lowell, but the administration wanted someone to revamp a program plagued by drugs and gangs.
“Coach Dean brings a tremendous amount of experience to our program with core values being at the center of his coaching philosophy,” Chelsea Principal Nick Angel said in a statement. “Coach Dean understands the role of the development of the entire student-athlete, and this aligns with the principles of our Chelsea community.”
Dean pieced together 25 straight winning seasons at Bendle and Lowell. Most of his damage came at Lowell where he won 12 district titles, nine regionals and made the state finals six times. He also produced 15 All Academic All State players.
He is not at Chelsea to build on his reputation and hog the spotlight. Rather he wants to promote younger coaches and help catapult their career.
“My job more management,” Dean said. “That is awesome. I am not here for self-promotion. I feel more like a caretaker.”
